By this he means that the outside of the heel is worn down because the wearer's foot pronated when he walked. Only shoe lovers like this need to ponder the reason for  heels getting worn down.

Talking of restoring worn clothing though, a girl I knew had a shop on Chelsea Village Market in the early 70s and as I recall one line was old Levi's that'd been restored and made hipper by adding flared bits.

^ Cheaper old cars area are a hobby for people who enjoy working with their hands.

More expensive makes are either an indulgence or a chance to make a lot of money.

I agree about second hand shoes. Would have to have been worn a relative for me to wear them.
