I feel like such a neophyte in these arenas. The hole that Mr Grayson discusses at the end of the button hole is interesting. In my line of work, I do some carpentry on the human skull. I will sometimes create what is called a barrel stave osteotomy in the skull or a straight cut in the skull to add to its shape or rather re-shape. In an attempt to prevent that line or incision or cut in the bone from extending beyond where I stop, I make a small round hole. The bone will not tear or the cut will not extend further. Does a keyhole have the same function? I know that stitching arond the buttonhole will prevent the hole from extending, but can there be some function to the keyhole? I am not a carpenter, just a simple surgeon...
