Like most others here, I'm a "refugee" from AskAndy, but after lurking for a while, I decided to join. It's a nice change of pace from the other, often-repetitive forums out there, and I've always been pretty entertained by your writing FilmNoirBuff, so, thank you for that. Anyway, I'm currently apprenticing with a tailor in New York, and hopefully will continue to do so for quite some time, though I've only been at it a few months so far. While I'm pretty much the furthest thing from any sort of expert right now, I at least hope I can provide some additional insight into the bespoke process and of course maybe learn a thing or two myself!
Welcome to the "land of hateful losers".
There is almost nowhere in NYC where an aspiring custom tailor can apprentice these days because of the fact that of the few tailors extant in NYC, even fewer are plying their trade in the classic, old fashioned way in which the clothes are made in-house, enabling the apprentice to learn how to make a suit step-by-step, stitch-by-stitch.
CHC,
Nice to have you around.
May I ask you how you become a "refugee"?
