Sush a steal

For those who buy clothes on a budget: i wandered into the New Haven JPress the other day. Every suit and and jacket that was not a fall 06 model is on sale at 40% off. The manager showed me the tags. If they don't have a computer bar code they are from 04 or before. Otherwise you can read the date on the sleeve tag.  I bought a navy flannel chalk stripe and think I will go back this weekend for another suit. Great bargain, and as the manager said: "Our styles don't change form year to year". For the old school: Mr. Paul Press will still show up in the shop around Christmas time and Graduation day in May. Just to see the 'Old Boys'.

Re: Sush a steal

Well, I hope FNB corrects the spelling in the main title.

And 04 or before will have more natural shoulders too, compared to the recent slightly more padded offerings.

Re: Sush a steal

I think 04 is when the Canadian ones came in (could be wrong). I've an American one from that year - maybe old stock - that is truer to the old Press cut. Although, as I once tried & failed to catalogue, the 'Press cut' is an elusive thing always slightly changing from season to season and line to line it would seem.

Tom22 would be the person who'd know best about this.

(I could get up & go check old catalogues but I've only just sat down and you know how it is...)

Re: Sush a steal

you know, I'm not really a good person to ask. I think I look for suits just because of the fabric. I do know a full canvas jacket from a half canvas one but In winter I will always opt for the rich feeling flannel and in summer will always opt for the lightest thing around. I did get my first suit at Rosenberg's circa 1970, but back then there were a lot of nice places to shop. Wasn't concened about the sack look, just looked for the nice fabric at a good price in one of the local stores. Hard to believe but over the years one of the local stores became an icon. Started shopping at Brooks when I got my first real job in Westort, CT and that is where the Fairfield County crowd bought their clothes. The look hasn't changed much since I was in a private high school. Navy Blazers and Tweed jackets, flannel trousers plus Black watch tartan pants, oxford shirts. I just didn't even know there was anything else. Maybe the stuff was 3 button, I just can't remember at this point. It was the local clothing stores where my parents took me. Now a world that is Gone With The Wind. Maybe that is why I cling to it so closely.
