Re: Have you been decadent lately?

Got myself a bottle of Creed Santal at Barney's NY after my fitting at Ginza Tailor. Then I enjoyed a 1904 Armagnac at a local wine bar. I'm having a gin & tonic mixed with Tanq 10 for my Sunday morning breakfast.

Terry, you truly push the envelope. The only time I frown at my newspaper is when I can't find some obscure Japanese term in my dictionary.

Re: Have you been decadent lately?

Those are very nice; I especially like the Japanese '50s ones.

I have this old book entitled "This is Japan 1969" and it has various advertisments for jewels that look similar to the one you bought.

I suspect the Mikimoto dress set is from the '60s/'70s?

Re: Have you been decadent lately?

The antiques dealer, who is very knowledgeable about these things and was able to tell me the exact year of the English cufflinks from the hallmark, said the Mikimoto set is from the '50s-'60s. They are not joined by a chain but by a spring clip.

Re: Have you been decadent lately?

Recent events demand that I resurrect this thread.

I now have excuse (and fresh means) to indulge another in return for having been indulged, which in turn has recently given me ample excuse to indulge her by way of indulging myself; she must be as well accessorized as she accessorizes me.

The double-breasted suit in Carlo Barbera chalkstripe flannel was a given long before meeting her, but the velvet jacket in midnight blue Dormeuil with burnt crimson lining and the Santoni FAM half suede-half calf chisel toe one-off shoes were indulgences I'd scarcely have more than mused about merely to adorn myself. Not that aught besides the shoes has seen the light of day at present.

I'm contemplating a rotation of fully handmade Ginza Tailor shirts and have tentatively chosen the fabrics. Since the options for the handmade are nearly infinite, they'll be made with higher collars with contrasting fabric inside and perhaps the inside of the French cuffs as well. Who cares that no one will see it until I undress? -- ah, but that's the whole point!

It seems, however, that the impulse to indulge is frequently met with a countervailing force, which in this case was a filling falling quite painfully out of a tooth. Thus, I'm constrained to address the irksome necessity of a costly visit to the dentist instead of frolicking in a garden of unalloyed indulgence, though it has been hinted that the Tooth Fairy may bring something to console.

Meanwhile, there is Cognac to be drunk and Cubans to be smoked, not to mention innumerable other decadencies to indulge.

Re: Have you been decadent lately?

Turns out the tooth problem was not a cavity and only required a new filling, which took half an hour and cost me $25 equivalent.

I'm celebrating with chocolate.

Re: Have you been decadent lately?

Arrived today: two No.8 colour cordovan Alden shoes and six Mercer shirts, I'm drinking 21 year old single malt by the log fire and composing my letter of resignation to be delivered on Thursday.  All that's missing for real libertiness and decadence, are the dancing dwarves with trays of coke and leather clad escorts reading Shelley and Blake.

Just popped the vodka into the freezer for when Elaine rolls up at nine...

Our mornings in the office are going very well.

Her Mother rang me up the other day to ask if young E. was picking up 'transferable skills', you know...

Re: Have you been decadent lately?

Rocking the new DB suit this morning for the first time, having picked it up yesterday evening. Sadly, Christmas in Japan is just another day in the office and none too decadent. But Champagne and plenty of it is to be had at the end of the day following my gruelling five-minute walk home. I may have to exercise an unwonted restraint to save the vintage pink for breakfast.
