The Gieves & Hawkes concession in Bentall's in Kingston is closing at the end of the month (as are all Gieves & Hawkes concessions in department stores, e.g. Selfridges group and House of Fraser). The reason is that the management see them as too "down market", possibly an indication that the remaining stores are moving "upmarket". This news follows the decision of Kilgour to pull out of RTW and concentrate on bespoke. It suggests that the traditional Row houses are returning their roots.
The last shirts I bought on the Gieves & Hawkes webstore were excellent quality, despite being made in Turkey, these I might add were before the relaunched site. But they did lose the plot for awhile a few years back, with the awful Gieves range and the "modern fit" crap.
I use to buy a lot from Gieves & Hawkes in Chester back when I had a 15.1/2" collar and 32" waist.
