I have only gone to the store on Pl. des Ternes.  Their shoes seem pretty good.

Re: Developing a new "SHOO PYRAMID" (preliminary discussion)

But should there not be a champion shoemaker, one who blends his lasts with the higher arts?  Should we not praise him, as we do all those television and celebrity chefs who merely cook food? Are we a more feeble and emasculated culture that elevates mere cooks to prime time television whilst real craftsmen go unrewarded?  Food for thought.

I'm interested in your position on cordovan, having recently purchased by first pairs of Alden cordovan's, as "most discussions of shell cordovans on the internet are somewhat meaningless." Please explain further (thank you).

For now, I leave the last word to the late, great Kirsty MacColl who captured the luxurious fetish zeitgeist of shoes pefectly in this song:

Thanks g-, you're certainly educating me. You're also right on the personal taste, you can't argue against personal preferences, but like music, there must/or should be a point of intersection, somewhere where we can arrive at an objective position of "good" i.e. a sound method of construction? And also intent, the intent of the shoemaker in making something that is beyond a mere shoe.  But by that I don't mean something fancy an ornate, I mean kick ass shoes, made by men, for men.

Re: Developing a new "SHOO PYRAMID" (preliminary discussion)

Interesting stats g-, be careful though, I had some due diligence activities under my jurisdiction for awhile and along with using organisations that had mercenary divisions, I had full access to D&B, I started to do similar research as above on all manner of companies that interested be personally. Little did I know, that the access to D&B was not unlimited, we were paying for each report requested.

I wager that the turnover of C&J's is larger than EG's, despite the hefty premium.  C&J's are pretty ubiquitous as the quality shoes for the common man and they're truly global in availability.

Accounts for USA companies are universal crap and meaningless. Caveat emptor.

I am curious as to why Ludwig Reiter does not get more applause at FNB.  Not many mentions here and I am always impressed with their shoes.
