Last fall, I received from Chan a jacket made from one of the new 15-ounce Porter & Harding Harris tweeds. After quite moderate use in the course of the winter, I am noticing quite a bit of pilling. Is this normal for Harris tweeds, which I think tend to be somewhat rough and shaggy, or is it a mark of subpar quality? I note that Chan did not have this collection with them on their November tour. I wonder if this was the reason.
Any thoughts or counsel?
Pilling has happened on my tweed garments merely by hanging them in the closet and having them brush up against other garments.
^But I've had no pilling in four other tweed jackets (Shetland and Donegal) that I've had much longer. So, is it just certain tweeds where this is endemic?
Harris tweed doesnt normaly suffer too bad with pilling, as FNB said maybe just the initial loose pile but then its fine usualy.

Would going over the jacket with one of those pumice stones (I think they are) sold as anti-pilling devices beneficial? I've got one around somewhere.
I love Donegal and Harris Tweed. Harris tweed is the only fabric which you can tear a hole through with a pen, and then rub it off... I could not tell ya about pilling though...
