Anyway, what a palaver.
Do any of you bother with this malarkey ? Acetone and various paints, polishes and waxes ? Why not just buy a colour you like in the first place ?
There are also those people in Japan who pre-distress shooos, some pay big money to have it done so their brand new shoos don't look brand new.
I think there's a point to it. I don't really like the full patinas that make the shoes look painted, but I do like the patinas that bring some accents on different parts of the shoes. I also like the hues of the John Lobb museum calf, but I can't afford their shoes.

I have a pair of black shoes that I had someone patinate in black and very dark brown, and I love the result.
I've tried restoring shoes, with iffy results, but never a deliberate antiquing process.
Besides, if you do it all at once, it can hardly be said to be antique. Modified, but not antique.
