Antiqueing shoes

Features on the latest Dress With Style video. Same gay Frenchman that did the shoe polishing video.

Anyway, what a palaver.

Do any of you bother with this malarkey ? Acetone and various paints, polishes and waxes ? Why not just buy a colour you like in the first place ?

Re: Antiqueing shoes

There are also those people in Japan who pre-distress shooos, some pay big money to have it done so their brand new shoos don't look brand new.

Re: Antiqueing shoes

I think there's a point to it.  I don't really like the full patinas that make the shoes look painted, but I do like the patinas that bring some accents on different parts of the shoes.  I also like the hues of the John Lobb museum calf, but I can't afford their shoes.

There's a good example of a nice, subtile patina on Marc Guyot's site:

I have a pair of black shoes that I had someone patinate in black and very dark brown, and I love the result.

Re: Antiqueing shoes

I've tried restoring shoes, with iffy results, but never a deliberate antiquing process.

Besides, if you do it all at once, it can hardly be said to be antique. Modified, but not antique.
