Re: Cars.

A car is no fun in London and the South East of England.

I commute to work by train. I hate traffic jams and driving is the curse of the drinking man.

You still need one though. At least I do not have the nightmare of trying to park it on the street.

There is so much aggression and road rage now. Many other countries are more civilised about driving than the English. I was amazed at driving in California - such great distances but they do not seem to speed or drive on one another's tails like over here.

Re: Cars.

Fair point Formby. I have driven in France but not Paris. West of Ireland is a delight though, because of the lack of traffic.

It is just extremely unpleasant having to be so assertive in driving in my part of the country I did not find that in California - even in San Francisco.

Re: Cars.

What is the driving behaviour like in your countries?

ln Oz it is every man for himself and women drivers never let you in the traffic, they pretend you don't esxist. Drivers (women and migrants) often sit in the overtaking lane and migrants drive at half the speed limit often because they don't know the road rules and can't read English. The roads are a circus. lf the government cracked down on making o/s people properly licenced to drive in Oz there wouldn't be the amount of clueless idiots on our roads.

l'm always a kind driver, l always let everyone push in in front of me. Public funding isn't near enough to make roads, so traffic is getting ferocious. Peak hour starts at about 6am and lasts to about 10am. The afternoons freeways start building up at 2.30pm and stay choked until 7.30pm. Things and lifestyles have really gone to shit because of all this traffic.

Re: Cars.

Too many small time idiots using mobile phones while driving too. lt's scarey and it makes me want to hand in my licence through fear of being seriously injured by some idiot.

Re: Cars.

I can't afford a car that befits my personal sense of style, so i just drive what I can afford/is available/fits everything in.

Sorry state of affairs really (for me at least).

Re: Cars.

Why not buy a Brompton (Made in England) and move to the Netherlands, magnificent cycle lanes everywhere, of course the tax and the fact that you're six metres below sea level might put you off......
