I have. Deliciously decadent.
Nearly a month ago, I went into Brooks Brothers in Ginza, Tokyo to look for a good casual leather jacket. I found the perfect thing; a sheepskin cafe jacket in a color I'd describe as Havana. They didn't have it in my size, so I ended up trying on a double breasted deerskin coat that fit so beautifully that I bought it on impulse along with a cashmere scarf. Still, I had to have the cafe jacket too, and just took delivery of it today (along with a week's worth of full-cut boxers). I am seriously contemplating buying two pair of suede Ferragamo Tramezza wholecuts in black and brown.
In the meantime, I've also bought a 12-bottle wine cellar and a Tabriz rug. The new Amadana alarm clock is scarcely worth mentioning by comparison.
What drove my recent decadence home was breakfasting on a Hendricks and tonic at 3:00 p.m. today.
Have you been dacadent lately?
I've gone and done it again.
Today I wandered into Zegna in Ginza and tried on a pair of chocolate suede chukka boots and ended up buying them. They fulfill a sartorial need rather than a want, since I own nothing else comparable and they will take the burden off my one pair of casual shoes, a pair of Zegna slip-ons of the same construction and similar style.
Immediately afterward, I stolled into Ferragamo and tried on a pair of the suede Tramezza wholecuts -- good thing too. I discovered a quirk in the sizing due to the last. But lest decadence lapse into vulgarity, I restrained myself. When I finally do buy the Tramezzas, I'll buy both black and brown.
I may need to have a chalk-stripe suit or two made to go with them. What do you think?
I'll be going in there soon, but just to chat, check out their wares and add to my sartorial vocabulary in Japanese.
At the moment, I'm just finishing up my entirely chocolate breakfast.
Those Zegna monks are nice. They also come in dark brown suede.
I need a pair of those Chelseas.
I'd like to get a pair of RM Williams, but with the more rounded toe. Maybe in very dark brown or black with the lighter brown elastic.
I like the shoo, lower row, middle. Some of those squared or "chisel" toe shoes with the double row of eyelet looks good. Sort of reminds me of some of the AA illustrations.
New Year's sales are in full swing in Tokyo. The day before yesterday I scoped out the prospects in Ginza. Yesterday, I moved in for the kill. I bought 2 Zegna ties at 30% off and 4 Dunhill ties for half price. Then I went to Brooks Brothers, where there was a veritable feeding frenzy of shoppers, and bought two merino sweaters.
My final stop was Hermes, where I contemplated the purchase of an orange cashmere scarf just to prove a point to someone else on another forum who opined that nobody can pull off the Hermes hallmark orange. It was about half what I expected to pay, so a purchase is imminent while it's still the season to wear it.
Thoughts about wearing the Hermes orange?
Ginza Tailor was not open, but I picked up one of their fliers and discovered that their prices are much more reasonable than I had expected. I'll be going there soon to begin to develop a relationship with the establishment.
