A man described as a gun enthusiast has been jailed for three years after he admitted conspiring with another man to import a Ruger .22 pistol and other offences including possessing a sawn-off shotgun, a semi-automatic shotgun, and an air weapon (capable of firing pellets at more than the legal limit) and possessing part of a pistol. Desmond Merrion from Ulceby, Lincolnshire, held a firearm certificate but not a shotgun certificate. Parts of the pistol were posted to him from America but a parcel containing them was intercepted. The butt of the gun was hidden in a hairdryer and the barrel was wrapped in a bundle of clothes.
