DSK is known for being sexually hyper active, and he would be the perfect subject for a honey trap.  If this is what happens, and if this comes out quickly, then he might actually benefit from the story, as long as it is crystal clear that it happened as such, and as long as he's not prosecuted.

If the facts happened as alleged though, he will get zero sympathy.  There are other stories of him being extremely forward with women and the story fits a pattern in this sense.

Now, if the facts are somewhere in between, e.g., if the maid was flirtatious and encouraged something before changing her mind, and or if the story in very exaggerated, then it will be something that would typically not have been prosecuted in France.  However the standards here are much tougher and he will be prosecuted and that will sink his candidacy even though he might get some sympathy points in France.

French people as a rule are much more easy going on sex stories than Americans, but to offset this they are very touchy regarding the prestige of France - which is suffering heavily here.

Yeah, that's an old story but the woman now is saying that she's considering pressing charges.  As I wrote, he has a history.
