Today, I keep thinking about 5 pocket trousers, preferably khaki, and the great look they afford with a tailored jacket.
Instant ivy ............?
New here, was hesitant to start a recommend me som good 5 pocket pants thread, heres my chance to jump in.
I've been searching high and low for an off white,"stone " or cement not khaki or tan or white pair of denim or canvas or twill 5 pocket pants' I must have ordered and returned 5 pair at least. the latest wer from Banana Republic... nice color but were so tight I looked like I should e riding a skateboard with my underwear sticking out. I mean skinny. I tried a pair from LE last summer but returned them because they were too baggy. If I knew than what I know now I would have kept them (they have since been discontinued) I tried the Natural color from them also in denim standard fit too baggy.I see on the Brooks Bros site that they have the fit I want but The come in that bright white color. I might have to settle for Levis 501 "Grit" but I really wanted somethin lighter weight for summer. It's hot in FL.

Not looking for chinos; looking for 5 pocket, jeans style
When I last saw Jim he was wearing some tan 5 pocket fine wale cords and a blue/grey chambray shirt with a white T shirt underneath. The 5 pocket is a great style and so easy to dress up or down. Are they just jeans or are they something more when worn with a blazer?
Also are they more adaptable than chinos?
Doog
Vintage "white" levi's or Wrangler "taper fits". If I had to go new I would just get the sand coloured 501's and have them tapered a bit.
Those Libertos are what I'm looking for, I don't think I can get them here in the states.
I have a pair of 5 pockets that I bought about 7,8 years ago from, dare I say, Old Navy, that are very simalar to those^, but zip fly and twill rather than denim. They are aged and slightly frayed around the pockets to perfection. The problem is they are that horrible relaxed fit that everyone was selling a few years ago. I'm goingtoday to have the legs taken in.
Regarding chinos vs 5 pockets, I just think the latter look better, more casual and masculine(and make your ass look better). Those Libertos do look good, the ris and the way the back pockets are set, alot of jeans today the back pockets are down to far. I even thik the 501 back pockets are too low, I prefer the Lee fit.
Lee do a similar khaki 5-pocket. Was just looking at them in town - they should be available in the States?
I tried the Lee "sand" color more tan than stone; returned them.
Am I sounding a little obssesive about this?
Liberto jeans:
John Simons are running an offer on them at the moment - normally £69 but currently 2 pairs for £100. They come in the sand/ off white colour (as in the photo above), grey, black and navy blue.
I called in today and stocked up on a couple of pairs.
JS, Paul and Ken on duty and all in good form.
.
Also I equipped myself with one of those Keydge slack jackets, a lovely navy blue one in cotton, just like that cool Jason Jules bloke wears. They're really good y'know. I've heard they're made in China but who gives a shit about that.
wats the rise on those bad boys Woof? I've got to send me Keydge back, the size was a no go. And cause of the way they're constructed you cant get them played around with. Shame really I'd say the price is far on them.
/\ Stressing the importance of being able to try things on. Ya can't beat a shop.
Have been long interested in the Libertos. May have to seek them out.
Aye, but also Jim, and I know this is reflected in the price of the Keydge it's nice when clothes are made in a way that they can be adapted, I like to think that is the true spirit of RTW, get something close and then have it altered. I'd love if Keydge did a jacket that used slightly different construction than that cotton one, hows the herringbone one put together? Any allowance?
I've got the poplin BB suit, in fact when work gets quieter the tailor is going to work on it for me and getting it brought in round the waist, It'll be nice to show how a very boxy jacket can become well fitted without darts. It's just a shame that it seems to be such a struggle to find a £200 jacket, new that can be tinkered with, and isn't darted. Of course if it fits you off the peg then it is plain sailing.

Yesterday I got sucked ino Muji by a combo on display in their window - striped t-shirt,summer jacket (bit like a darted Keydge) and a cement|greyish 5 pockets. The jeans were priced at something like 55 Euros and oddly were sized in m,l etc. Had no time for further inspdctions, but will try them when I find the time.
They also had a G9-copy and Oxford shirts which could serve as humble everydaywear. Can't tell much about these though, hence I was in a hurry.
The rise on Muji trousers tends to be very low, IIRC
