for nearly 20 years I have kept basic ID and cards in a small wallet, which I almost never pull from my pocket, bills are folded up and stuffed into another pocket which I access several times over the day, separating something I use often (cash) from something I use rarely (ID, cards) is the way to go
also separation means you are not likely to lose both, so if something goes wrong I will always have either cards or cash but I won't have lost both
Surely the only acceptable wallet to pull the trigger on is a green bespoke "breast wallet" from Hermes with embossed initials in gold or silver.
I've worn a "biker's" wallet (with a chain) for over 30 years now - much to the consternation of my tailor.
