Show business excess claims another life.
She looked a lot healthier when she just started out.
Very sad. She was hugely talented.
This is the most obvious pop-star implosion since Keith Moon. She and Moonie would have made quite a couple.
Keith Moon was the hyper active prankster type. He liked blowing up toilets and driving cars into swimming pools. I think he was more robust than Amy.
Shane McGowan is still a survivor.
Here's a pretty good photographic chronicle of her decline and fall:

It seems 27 is the sell by date for a lot of them: Cobain, Hendrix, Jones, Joplin, Morrison .....
It's tempting to blame the music industry of the fame game for these people's descent, but I bet all of them would have led similar lives if they had been talentless like the rest of us.
I was hoping she would get her shit together and put out one more album of the same quality as her last. I always assumed she'd be in and out for sobriety for about 10 years or so and then would either make a clean break of it or die
As stupid as it sounds I found her death surprising
And just a few weeks ago, some loons tried to kidnap Joss Stone with a sword. Rough month for white British soul divas.

I have never listened to much of her stuff and most of it vicariously but she had a great voice...as the man said ..."I've seen the needle and the damage done"....
She had talent, but that quality is the most abundant and over estimated resource in the universe; its hard graft, self reliance and discipline that are in short supply. Tenacity and mission she had zero of.
Moon was a legend, a coyote trickster figure, whereas Amy is one of those sad middle class girls reduced to smoking crack around the coffee table and not much else. I wouldn't rush out to read a Whitehouse biography, but one on Moon is of interest.
May be I am being too harsh, she was introduced to bad drugs at a very early age.

So young, so talented and such a tragedy. l usually don't give a rip when celebrities die, but l felt sad when Amy died. l had a real soft spot for her.
I'm not convinced that Mike Myers is the right actor to play Moon. Nevertheless, any Who film is to be welcomed.
Back in the '80's I remember Townsend was on Russell Harty's talk show being interviewed on the plans for a film on Moon. It could be great.
Like most of these people, she was off my radar. I didn't even twig to the fact she was Jewish. Maybe she fancied herself as a bit of a Joplin figure.
