Immigration is nothing new and the Romans could teach us a thing or two about globalization.
Yes but not to the degree we see it now, and the speed of communication now is something we may accept as normal, but it really is something of our time, more so than then. We now have further and greater complications, even in contrast to the early and mid part of the 20th century, one thing I would say though is human nature is the constant, and that doesn't seem to have changed since The Romans, or since we got frontal lobes.

The English seem to have a unique problem: How does a former colonial empire deal with immigration ?
Looking from the outside, I can not understand how the more radicalized imams from Luton are allowed to, not only remain in the country, but, actively and publicly call for the destruction of it's government, laws and social system and demand it's replacement with an islamic caliphate.
It boggles the mind.
As interest has wained in the world about Brevik, heres the lastest on him from downtown Oslo... He's told police he wants a Japanese psychiatrist before he gives any more information. The Japs don't let Muslims into their country, so he thinks anyway. He asked for the goverment to resign during 10 hours of interviewing by police, also for the royal family to resign, and, to be put in control of the defence forces for the time leading upto his court hearing. He's also stated he spared the youngest youths as he didn't think they'd been fully brain washed. The worst of his demands the Police have refused to reveal. Crackers? Not half.
Its true the Japanese are very strict in who they let in as migrants, their policy is to ensure the Japanese culture is not eroded or diluted through the influx of immigrants. They do not allow immigration on the scale seen in Europe. Of course, the UK politicians remind us that countries such as Japan have an ageing demographic time bomb that will not be repeated in Britain.
Someone posted on The Telegraph website that Brevik requested monthly visits from a prostitute. Obviously, he's play acting to ensure he does time in the looney bin and not regular jail. He's certainly not mad in the classical sense.
No, but if he's found to be nuts, he'll serve his sentence in the mad house. The longest sentence he can get is 30 years. That means you serve 30 years, after that your reviewed and every five years there after. He is of course completely bonkers. He'll never get out, and I think if he goes to "normal" prison it'll only be a matter of time till he gets topped.
I don't think he's play acting, his uniform is decorated with the U.S Vietnam service ribbon and the coast guard service ribbon and lord knows what else. He's claims in his writings that his step father has slept with 500 women and given his mother herpes, as if he's not put the poor cow though enough, what sort of son puts that on the internet? This is the woman who not only gave brith to him but put a roof over his head for 31 years. In his own words...
My mother was infected by genital herpes by her boyfriend (my stepfather), Tore, when
she was 48. Tore, who was a captain in the Norwegian Army, had more than 500 sexual
partners and my mother knew this but suffered from lack of good judgement and moral
due to several factors (media – glorification of certain stereotypes being one).
Unfortunately for her, her poor judgment resulted in her being afflicted by genital herpes.
I can't work out if knowing it's the work of a lone lunatic, and not an organised terror cell makes it any better. In the sense you may not have to fear repeat attacks? Have they actually discovered whether he is linked to anyone else?
He claims to have had a meeting with others that share his views from a few european nations, some sort of summit. Of course that might be all in his head like his medal ribbons. He's not been linked to others here, so he seems a lone wolf, as they say.
It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say an Army Officer slept with that many women - they sleep with prostitutes a lot.
There's a whiff of asperger syndrome laced with narcissism about this. Looks like there's no other groups he was linked to and he thought this would kick-off a bigger confrontation with him at the helm.
If he was knocking around with right wing neo-nazis they would have been pushing him to attack the direct source of his problems and not some kids.
He's also a bad ambassador for Lacoste, why was he wearing Lacoste? There will be some hidden meaning in his writings - look at the crocodile in a mirror whilst playing Helter Skelter backwards and you see the message of the up and coming culture war written from Renee back in the 1930's.
I was speaking to Norwegian colleague of mine this afternoon, and he said the socialist party was now using this event for political gains. I don't know, I don't follow Norwegian politics. But its shocked the Norwegians more than an event like that would in Blighty.
Only because the media has panned the humanity out of most of us. We live more in fiction than we do real life, which is why we can tolerate it, because we are so removed.
I don't think the Labour party is using it to gain anything, the PM has handled the situ well but he's not used it as a platform for his party. Not at all. The youths that were murdered were at a camp ran by the Labour party, symphathy of course will be with the families of those killed but I can't see how anyone of any party here, left or right, has played on this tragedy for political gain. Hepcats colleague is talking rubbish as far as I can see.
