Do we drive cars?
That is, does the forum population own cars that they drive--or merely wish they drove?

My father drove vintage cars as daily drivers back in the 50s and early 60s. He also provided ample photographic records of them, namely a '34 Packard Super Eight town sedan and a Lincoln Zephyr of similar vintage. In 1960, he purchased a new VW beetle. I still have the owner's manual and invoice. He sold it several years later in mint condition -- he was obsessive about taking care of his cars -- and the woman who bought it asked why he was selling such a beautiful low-mileage car so cheap. He then explained that the odometer had already been around once.
My first car was a '60 beetle that I purchased on Nantucket and drove for years, including a round trip across the country.

I am unable to pass the driving test as I have absolutely no spacial awareness.
I've spent thousands on lessons on & off.
I get cabs everywhere or friends & family drive me around. It's much cheaper.
Mrs Lean has two old VWs a little one & a big one.

Speaking of class associations of automobiles, I just received the Spring Brooks Brothers catalog.
Did anyone else find it rather too class aspirational that they have that white convertible Rolls Royce in most of the pictures? I wonder how many Rolls owners shop at BB.

I had a dream last night that I'd just bought a Bentley Continental GT, and while taking my brother for a ride, pulled off to the side of a country road without a guardrail and a sheer drop of a few feet, misjudged and ran the front wheel off the road, dropping the car violently onto its chassis. This is only the second time I've dreamt about owning this car and both times I've damaged it severely.
