Olympics fatigue

... and it has not officially started yet.

The State Propaganda Channel opened its '10 o'clock News' with a non story - stating it was only a day to go until the Olympics opening ceremony.

I managed to avoid most the news coverage by switching to a repeat documentary about Thin Lizzy when it all got too much. Whatever happened to a simple parade with all the athletes following their national flag?

Re: Olympics fatigue

What happened to the animated Olympics logo that was here a minute ago?

We played 'Guess the next English cliche' all the way through - My chum Simon thought the climax of the show should have been a great big plate of curry with Jack the Ripper sitting on top.

wink

Re: Olympics fatigue

haha, it was all a bit shit, I think it's difficult to imagine Britain without using hard hitting social commentary. And that's what makes this place interesting, but that wouldn't really transfer into an Olympic opening ceremony that well, Britain is raw, all the optimism, is replaced with humour and cynicism, which is why I like it.

Re: Olympics fatigue

OK, so I stood in the middle of Kingston bridge for half an hour and eventually the cyclists flashed past. Town was completely traffic free. GB did not do any good and I went down the pub afterwards. Southampton v Ajax plus women's volleyball on the telly. When the football ended the guvnor asked me what I wanted to see, but I had no real interest in any of it. Women's handball came on and to my surprise it was a team game. Handball in Ireland used to be a GAA sport like squash without raquets. Watched Liverpool versus Spurs in Baltimore. Guvnor complained that they sang the 'Star Spangled Banner'. I told him it was played in the US and yanks do that sort of thing. Quite a few in the Baltimore stadium however.

Contrary to lies of FNB and Woofboxer, I (and most of the other "Buff Bastards") have been banned from posting on this forum. There are only a few posters left so don't waste your time on here. This forum is dead and nobody cares.

Re: Olympics fatigue

I love sport, but hate everything about it, the media, the pundits, the advertising, it's all bullshit. Money has destroyed a lot of what makes sport, sport.

It will be interesting how the lack of bums on seats pans out or develops next week.

Re: Olympics fatigue

Olympics should be more like 'It's a Knockout' or 'Jeux Sans Frontieres' as it was also known. That would keep costs down.

Tug of War should also be reinstated as an Olympic sport.
