Aye. It is lined and does have the same pockets as a G9. It's as close as you'll find by a well known brand, new today that I know of.

I didn't want to just say 'look at ebay and etsy vintage'.... BUT you should!

Just remember these are standard design windbreakers. Golf jackets for the masses. If you trawl ebay/etsy you will find something I'm sure. Most large and small US companies would have made a jacket like this at some time.

I tend to go for vintage when looking for a windbreaker although I also have a g4.

What about something like an American Eagle. Had one that served me well.

Here's the reason I don't want to go vintage: normally I ride a scooter in high traffic area and (because of the water-proof fabric, I think) the pollution builds up to form a layer of soot on the windbreaker, so I have to wash it practically every other week. The last one I had lasted for about 3 months.

So, the idea is to find one that is mass-produced and therefore easily replaceable. More like American Eagle rather than Fred Perry. Thanks for the suggestions. The quest continues...

Another alternative might be a Katharine Hamnett St Andrews Jacket. Similar to a London Fog 1960's/70's Golf Jacket but without a raglan sleeve. This is a quality, Made in England, product. Egyptian cotton so a windbreaker and not rain proof. No logos except on zips. However, it may now be out of production. I bought one from TKMaxx a couple of years ago for £12 but they were retailing for £120 at the time. Dangerously close to an old man at C&A look but worn with the right clothes it looks pretty good.

Why not just buy one of the better quality harringtons available on ebay for £20 - £30? Then you can change it whenever. I bought a grey one recently and was really surprised at the good quality. Why spend a fortune if it's only going to get ruined on your scooter?

I thought a similar thing Beatnik. But I was thinking buying a generic vintage US golf jacket was the right route. Cheap throw away stuff.

The Harrington though is a different kettle of fish. I think if the Kid wanted one of those he'd be able to find one easily enough.

Lazy bastard Ivy. Bought a Scottish Drizzler on Etsy. Very 50s Americana - then - ditto, I suppose - a King Louie in royal blue for £4.50 (Wild, Nottingham) and a cherry red Sir Jac for £22.50. Each of these latter sold as 'Harrington' jackets, ha ha. But, £4.50 for a jacket with a little bit of a mark on it seemed reasonable for the onset of early autumn; simply to be worn with jeans or chinos and loafers or dessies. Spending more money nowadays on Art Deco and hefty tomes on the likes of Christopher Dresser. The influence of my good old friend 'Alv' (from '78-9), Mr. Bonsall, John Simons and John Gall.

There was a lot of talk on the net (forums and blogs) a number of years ago about who made James Deans jacket in 'Rebel...'. The conclusion that most seemed to draw was that he wore a MacGregor Anti Freeze with a modified lining (perhaps to make it look better on screen). The discussion all came from the initial boasting of one piece of Baracuta add blurb that seemed to suggest Dean wore a Red Baracuta in the film. I'm not sure now if they said a G4 or G9 but obviously both is wrong.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is the company's reaction to all that Baracuta bashing.

I'd forgotten entirely about those cheap as chips golf jackets. I've just bought another (tartan-lined) King Louie. £15. Made In The USA. Natural. It's finding cotton that seems to be a little difficult. Again, though, to be worn with jeans and loafers/jeans and sneakers.
