I would love to start a flame war, but I hate "collateral damage" (as your American brethren aptly call it).  If you are interested in a more than frank discussion, could you please kindly repeat your points re riots etc?

Perfect for the powers that be, as it gives them a wonderful opportunity to berate the underclasses whilst destroying our civil rights.

Indeed, the riots of the early 80s had everything to do with an institutionalized racist police force enforcing the dredded suss laws and 'black and white: stop on sight'. And other petty cruelties of a small fascist enterprise.

What is happening now, is the beginning of the assertion of the seperate marginalised culture and as the UN has reported, vast swathes of UK inner cities are already operating a parallel economy, controlled by drug lords and criminal gangs. This is common place in the US and parts of the second world, the suburbs of France and Malmo in Sweden which a lot of the inner cities already mirror in life expectancy.

The elephant in the room, is that post-industrial societies cannot deliver full employment and no amount of unbridled immigration, dumbing down the higher education system and property booms is going to ultimately increase the GDP or create a viable economy that delivers the aspirations of the majority. How bad will it get? The worse case scenario would be somewhere like Mexico, the ultimate nightmare of post-industrialisation.

^ Yes social cohesion has deliberately been eradicated in the UK. Business hoped for cheaper costs via imported labour and some politicians hoped to create a new base of hardcore voters via welfare and entitlement issues.

I do not believe attempts to maintain full employment are hopeless but a globalist mindset mean that UK business no longer looks after its own workers.

^ Nationalistic self interes,t including barriers to entry and restrictions on outsourcing and foreign ownership would mitigate the impact of job losses in the UK.

There is also nothing wrong with forcing the unemployed to do certain jobs that are currently unfilled. Our parks and open spaces need not be neglected. A busybody concierge team should operate from all council flats. Failure to do the job properly could result in withdrawal of benefits. No significant extra spend would be required for the workfare-type stuff.
