Pyjamas and dressing gown

This has got no ivy connection, as I don't have time (or the inclination) to wait for something from the US. However I'm sure this is a good place to solicit advice.

I need some quality pyjamas and a dressing gown, preferably not made in China (if that's possible these days). Nor can they be gratuitously expensive. They must be available from the UK (high st or online). Thanks.

Re: Pyjamas and dressing gown

Can you get Brooks Brothers stuff on your side of the pond?

Their pj's are pretty nice, but sadly made in PRC.  I have a flannel pair and a plain cotton pair.  The cotton are especially nice; no elastic in the waistband.

You might want to try Wood's of Shropshire Yuca.  I need to buy pyjamas and a dressing gown as gifts, and they seem to have a decent selection:

Pendleton do great robes. Derek Rose for pyjamas.

I would second Derek Rose, although they are quite expensive.

I also have one from BB, made in China, but really great -once you get used to the drawstring they have instead of an elastic band.

Just to get a repp..

Heartwarming to hear my favourite brand praised so fulsomely here. Why as I type this I am in my pink and mauve Winceyette Dereks and they are wonderfully warm and particularly comfortable around the orchestras.

Re: Pyjamas and dressing gown

If you want to shell out money, Derek Rose. Fantastic stuff. If not, Made in Vietnam is the way to go - Marks and Spencer, very good for what you pay. But the really good stuff is Derek Rose. I would stay away from BB and the likes, as the expensive Made in England stuff there is probably Derek Rose, too - but more expensive. Same with Derek Rose slippers and all the slippers they have in the US - they all come out of the Draper of Glastonbury fabrication. And guess what? They are half the price if you buy them via Pediwear or Shoes International...

BTW, I would second Pendleton, too. Expensive, but very nice. But Pendleton robes you can get easily via the bay... used but much cheaper...

Re: Pyjamas and dressing gown

BTW, real "Ivy" Pyjamas and Dressing Gowns always were Made in England stuff, apart from Pendleton stuff (which I wouldn't consider as Ivy, that's more Americana anyway)...

Noel Coward was a charmer,
As a writer he was brahma,

The gay divorce and other dramas.

Van Gogh did some eyeball pleasers,
He must've been a pencil squeezer,
He didn't do the Mona Lisa,
That was an Italian geezer

Vtg Pendletons and Beacon Blankets... Check eBay/Etsy!

O'Connell's has a nice pair of plaid flannels I've been eyeing also.

And I've got a few pairs of Paul Stewart pj's on sale (with added discount code) that weren't exactly cheap but not anywhere near the exorbitantly priced full msrp. I like 'em a lot.

Re: Pyjamas and dressing gown

Went with D Rose. 2 pairs of pjs plus 1 dressing gown for 200 - expensive, but not the sort of things I can be bothered with getting on the cheap.

Hopefully mine by Friday.

Thanks for all advice.

Re: Pyjamas and dressing gown

Mine - rarely worn as it is an item of great beauty - is by Altman of New York.  Very 'golden age' Ivy.
Up until a couple of years ago we were buying art glass from a dealer who also sold a certain amount of vintage clothing.
She told my wife that her instinct was it was exactly my kind of thing.  A snip at £8.
It's crimson with small diamond shapes upon it and is made of some kind of post-war unnatural fibre.
My M&S gets a good deal more wear.
