and lets not forget Cardiff's infamous casual/football gang the Soul Crew.
So called because they loved heavy metal.

Music did seem to take a secondary place to the clothes for some, yes.
And remember I did say most, not all.

Re: A Pox On Youth Subcultures !

But has there been any noticeable youth subcultures since Acid House in '89?

No, and the reason is obvious.

The reason Top Shitter likes to present himself as so many things online is because in real life he is a duffer. Unable to hold down a regular job, poncing of his missus and no doubt having a few bob from family connections, one way or another. My favorite is his incarnation of himself as John Simons very own Hamish Bowles, getting together an archive of  a JSA collection to be shown at V&A. Fantastic and of course, complete boulderdash, what?

The Elephant boys and Cosh boys are covered here. Some really great pictures...

There was a great book a couple of years ago, I forget by who, that covered pre-mid 1950s sub-culture.   We tend to think it started then but of course that's not true, just a useful link to post WWII thinking.

The young un's of today do tend to follow fads and trends rather than subculture, especially trainers/sneakers.
One summer they're all in Vans. Then Surgical appliance Blazers. Swarms of kids all with the same footwear.
Puma Suedes and Converse All-Star . And the Joey Essex haircuts. Jesus.

and Superdry everything. Hollister. Abercrombie etc. but it doesn't qualify as a subculture.
Perhaps it will if some journalist puts a name to this kiddy look.

I have moved on, old boy. I'm merely giving you a reason to amuse yourself, what? Any time you want me, or one suspects, any other person, to stop, one only has to stop talking nonsense. Put away your carrot and theres nothing to nibble at, is there, what? I'm really not taking you any more serious than you, I. Maybe even less so. How can I? Your a tit. You must feel quite foolish now?

What?

my best,
S

maybe.
