The air tie is even older than air socks.
Grenadine ties, though, are the tie-world equivalent of French lisle over the calf cashmere socks.

A nice Brooks 40R plaid check sports jacket, would look great for spring with charcoal trousers and a repp tie as depicted. At 23" the sleeves are slightly too short for me. Good buy it now price though.
