For the second time today - I feel vindicated by the endorsment of Thee Legendary Cap'n smile Suspect that my affection for this blingtastic timepiece is inspired by my latent B- Boy sensibilities - ie; that it looks like something that you'd see hanging around the neck of Flavor Flav .....

Awww heck... I mean, go ahead if you like it, but you know it's way too macho for my effete and delicate sensibilities.

As you know, with the Seiko's and Citizen's you're getting a lot for your buck. I've always fancied a Citizen Skyhawk, but never quite got around to it. The Grand Seiko's are amongst the best made watches in the world and some of their Brightz and Presage ranges are good too. Would like to get the Seiko Cocktail Time SARBO 65.

As with Thee Captain's advice, if it feels right go for it!

The Cocktail Time... a very "under the radar" subtle and elegant timepiece...

Re: Ivy League watch for today...?

The Citizen Aqualand's are waaaaaaay too big in person - massive!

The Cocktail Time is indeed nicely understated, as are the Presage and Brightz lines from Seiko.

There's some very nice Omega's around at the moment too: the Seamaster 300 is a great homage to the 60s classic, but starting at around €5,200 is a bit pricey. And the Co-Axial Tresor range is fantastic, the only trouble is you need about 10 grand to buy one.

Re: Ivy League watch for today...?

I was doing a bit of Seiko and Citizen hunting this week as it happens, and having now tried them on, as opposed to merely looking at them, some of those diver beauts are definitely way, way too big for everyday use.

Very tempted with the Citizen Satellite Wave F100, getting some good reviews and looks a possible work watch, but I wasn't quite in that price range this month with my pocket money. In the end plummed for the Seiko "Sumo" SBDC003J 200m in the blue face, which is actually a navy blue. Quite a large watch by my standards, but you're getting Omega Seamaster quality for €595, plus Seiko's decades of diver watch refinement. Looks good on the wrist, a dress watch diver that will last forever.

Re: Ivy League watch for today...?

That Sumo is a nice looking watch.  Still a bit too much flash for my own taste.  I've realized one thing I really like in a watch, aside from a small case, is long and elegant hands.  The short and stumpy hands on some of these divers turn me off.

Re: Ivy League watch for today...?

They're great watches, a shame we couldn't have hooked-up for a deal!

I think one of the prejudices I have had against Seiko in the past, before I discovered the Captain Willard modification, is the vast delta of models in the cheap and cheery zone which makes you think they're a bottom-end manufacturer. But the Sumo's hit all the right boxes for the watch connoisseur: in-house movement, pedigree and quality. I'm a convert!
