Hello All-
For cheap pants- has anyone ever tried Dickies with any success?
Cap? This is your cue buddy.
Actually, I had a pair or two back in my youth, and they are seriously hard wearing pants. They're work pants.
I am always on the lookout for cheap pants that- because a company has an agenda other than pure fashion- have some vintage quality…I don't require the high waist that many of you prefer…I have some Dickies shorts from my dad and they seem to be poplin and (have poly in them) but I like them.
Ben Davis would be the gangbangers choice Ive yet to order a pair...
Always have a pair or two on the go. Cheap, hard wearing and despite the polyester, look OK after endless wash cycles. There's a slimmer 'fashion' line as well, that Number 6 in the Truman's Arcade opposite Rough Trade were carrying.
I think thee great Dobie Gray summed it up perfectly in his smashing hit of 1964 - The In Crowd:
Now Dobie absolutely adored his Dickies.....and the line
"...other pants imitate us....but thee originals are still the greatest..."
was a direct reference to the 874s....
Fanny around wiv NUTTIN ELSE J... they're probably the equivalent of a few pints over in Amerikerer too.... a nice high rise n all!
As SOS stated, they wash well...and if you're a lazy bollox like me who can't be arsed to get proper pants, it's a no-brainer!!!
Bop calls it with the Gangbangers choice...
Ben Davis forever shade it for me mind.. a bit larger...
God I miss Interstate in Cov Gdn...
Nothing wrong with Dickies or "wearin' Ben Davis, shootin' at your neighbours"...
True story: a pair of grey Dickies once pinch-hit for me at a wedding.
old Dickies were great, they used to always be available in this pleasant shade of landscaper's green, they were gardening pants, I didn't cuff those .... actual work wear, not just a vibe .... one could and did buy Dickies a block or so northeast of J. Press in New Haven ... they were on the scene but are more Ivy than preppy, because of their workwear origins, but they were popular on campus, and they could be thrashed ....
A local skateboarders/coffee shop recently opened up near me in the UK and they had Dickies for sale. I was tempted to buy some to give the boys a bit of a start as they hardly have any customers yet but they didn't have dickies 874 in olive green. Decided, against all my principles of not buying 'man made fibres' to order a pair 34/32 size £45 online and I must say they fit a treat. Nice high waist and the slightly shorter leg length means I can wear them with desert boots and only a slight break, no alterations required. They are bullet proof. I wore them out last night and nobody gave me a hard time for wearing 'workwear' socially. The bonus is that I can actually wear them in a manual work situation in the future. Not cheap in the UK but just because of the fit I might buy another pair.
I love that you just used "fixing to".
/\ I aim to please!
Who can forget Blind Lemon Jefferson's legendary blues number "I Feel Like I'm Fixing to Buy (Some Dickie's)"?

I really like the green Dickies shorts from the 60's…have a pair and they never wear out. The color has changed somewhat- I see the green they sell now isn't quite so distinctive as it used to be.
