My last Press Sack was about 3.5" in the last year before the 'bad' shoulders - 2002?
When they play with the 3/2 roll it changes the way the lapel width looks compared to the rest of the jacket, I think.

Kinda standard for RTW & has been for a long time - Brooks/Press, 80's onwards & all that.
I go slimmer (a bit) when I go MTM.

Press, of course, irons down flat the lapels to the middle button.
Probably for easier storage, etc.
Better would be a nice gentle roll to somewhere between the top & middle buttons.
That probably has to be done, post purchase, by a tailor or alterations expert.
