Is "Dainite" cockney for "Day and Night"?

This pic shoes the boxy toe cap typical for Reiter and other Austrian makers.

Re: Should I Scratch the scotchgrain itch?

^Exactly, they are more boxy than the Grasmere, the scotchgrain is more robust and the stitching on the welt is larger with less stiches per inch than the Grasmere.

There are style differences and the Grasmere is far from an amorphous mass of blobbiness. It is a E fitting and as the photos above demonstrate, they are an interesting autumn and winter shoe with no geography teacher pretensions at all.

Re: Should I Scratch the scotchgrain itch?

Veldtschoen are the English alternative. Zug leather. Waterproof.

I would take a commando sole instead of leather. It might not be as sleek as Dainite but in Winter that does not really matter to me.

All we are saying is give English scotchgrain a chance......

Re: Should I Scratch the scotchgrain itch?

Thanks to a bright young chick I  had the opportunity to break in my C&J Cardiff(?) cordos as she made us run all over W1 for three days.

Re Scotchgrainitch - went to see C&J and very much fell in love with their SG boots.

But I have enough shoes. For now.

Although thinking of SG makes me think of cold winters, a brisk walk and game-based pub food.

Re: Should I Scratch the scotchgrain itch?

I like Dainite as I have spent most of my life living in either Irish Sea or North Sea maritime climates, which demand a sole that is not leather for nigh on eight months of the years. That's why I like 'em!

I wager I would dig a pair of bespoke shoes made by masters in Vienna, that I have very little doubt of.
