Re: Country Life's 39 Steps To Being A Modern Gentleman

You might might be interested to know Im actually looking to start a plumbing course this year, I figured it'd probably be the closest I get to being near the throne.

Ha!

In all honesty I am though.

Good for you. But I think you'll have to start a course next year now? When I'm over next I'll have a look at my mums if theres still my old college books hanging around...I'm not 100% sure if they are or not.

I promise you you'll not regret it.

Meanwhile, I notice that they came up with a similar list for ladies, equally dreadful.

Why would any self-respecting lady who put-off having kids to early middle age, not wear make-up on the school run?

I think its just so you can sign stuff off yourself and not incur extra costs if you were doing your own business

You used to do earth bonding as part of the plumbing course. I pretty sure earth bonding is no longer required on water pipes in the UK.

Part P is, or was, very simple. You have a lesson on said mod in the morning and an exam on it in the afternoon. Only a complete moron can fail.

Can't find the link now I've come to find it again, but apparently it is the most important issue of our time, besides encouraging the whole of the wretched Middle East and Africa to come and live in Germany and Sweden so Merkel can feel good about herself.

This say's it all really:

Der ... A rook is a friggin' crow. They obviously know as much about friggin' country life as Simon 'Unshaven-Haven' Crompton knows about friggin' permanent style.

Re: Country Life's 39 Steps To Being A Modern Gentleman

^Is the rook a "friggin' crow"? Well, yes and no. It is a species of crow, but it is quite distinct from the carrion crow, which was probably what was meant in the original listing. Rooks have long, curved bills and a bare patch of skin at the base of the bill, unlike most crows.

As a boy, we had an American crow as a pet for about 10 years. He was a surprisingly good talker, with a very clear voice. He could imitate my mother calling her brother when he had a phone call, and he could imitate my  uncle calling his cats to dinner, among other things.
