All this talk about what clothes mean brings me back to Barthes, critical theory, and all that crap.
Unfortunately, cultural marxists have hijacked any discussion about clothes so that any attempt to show class, a superior or refined aesthetic sense, or any aspirations to rise above "casual" or "modern" approach to clothing is met with universal opprobrium other than in small obscure pockets like this forum.
Any attempt to distinguish the individual through clothing is viewed through the "class" prism. It is taken as accepted truth that any overt effort to highlight ones superiority over others is inherently bad, whereas any effort to conform to the masses is deemed virtuous. "Comfort", "convenience", "street fashion" are acceptable thus you find the ridiculous examples of cashmere hoodies or ridiculously expensive cargo pants. Look like the masses, feel the virtue.
It is very telling that in Silicon valley, where my son (a Yale graduate) works, the old adage of "when in doubt go slightly overdressed" has been turned on its head and now all his mates take the approach of going slightly underdressed lest they show their privilege too openly. The Frankfurt school died a long time ago but their lessons have penetrated deeply into our psyche. We have met the enemy and it is us. Ha! As if...!
Circling back to Politics, that is why I like Trump. He may be brash, loud, and uncouth but he is not afraid to parade his sense of superiority. As a matter of fact he revels in it. Wether it is true in his case or not is not the point, it is a tonic that is sorely needed in the west.
I just cannot stomach the thought of western society constantly making excuses for itself and its past in front of tin pot dictators, Putin, Khameini, latin american despots and the whole coterie of horrible jackals who are cynically waiting for us to get off the stage voluntarily so they can forcibly take control.
Hail vanity, hail elitism, hail western culture for WE ARE THE BEST.
To paraphrase Churchill "Western values are the worst, except for all the others"
Trump is an idiot. He happens to be a great marketer, and is going to get much mileage out of this for his brand, which is his goal anyway, but he is still an idiot. He exists on a lower plane of consciousness, which is exactly the problem you are bemoaning in your first two paragraphs. You can't have both.
DH...I have to say, I've warmed to you after that..

I'm just fascinated by his hair...
On the contrary, would everyone feel better if Cameron would dress in iGent regalia? Loud patterns? "Ivy" colours?
^ Thanks for taking this back to clothes.
It might be amusing if Cameron went Igent. A bit embarrassing for the country but it might reveal his inner clown
Doghouse, you may disagree with Trump, and I agree that he is not being artfully subtle in his pitch...but stupid?
It's common trope of the left (and I do not tag you as that) to call their opponents stupid or evil. Trump has them howling both epithets in full force which shows he has been very successful at puncturing their vain pose of knowing virtue.
And you have to know Hepcat is referring to immigrant Islam hordes.
The German and Seedish governments have taken to instructing the press to downplay immigrant crimes http://www.wnd.com/2016/01/german-elites-target-hate-speech-after-migrant-sex-attacks/
