Just went into his studio workshop in the Strand Arcade in the Sydney CBD where he is producing these shoes and boots with the "just left the foundry" look seen in shoes like O'Keefes etc. The Tortured brutalised look. Don't know if I am the right age but very interesting nevertheless. Had a bit of a shoe talk and he stressed how he liked Italy above all because they had the best machines training of tradesmen and vertical integration of the whole shoe industry - so in Italy you can get anything you want right there . No stuffing around with availability. He also thought their leather was superior to any other in Europe though he insisted on Redenbach soles as he said Bakers were too difficult to deal with.

He considers the Italian shoe industry is producing better shoes than the English shoemakers, or just the leathers? Interesting if he thinks the former. Certainly, the range of shoes in the UK is greater than in Italy, I mean, at street/shop level.
Thanks.
There are some really shitty looking boots and shoes in that first link.
Urm..not sure what type of self image youd have to have to buy a lot of them

The biggest collection of crap I've ever seen. Asym Derby Charcoal Yak $1095, come on.
Got to agree with Harry. A gruesome collection.
Well, I think you're judgements are somewhat harsh and out of context with our Antipodean cousins.
I see some of the ruggedness and Ned Kelly reality of the outback and unforgiving hardness of the land in them there shoes. The Oxford Toe Cap and Derby Black look interesting to me.
Of course, everything in Australia is expensive and one of the reasons the economy in Western Australia has tanked. So I don't hold that against them either.
Aye, he's clearly making a new shoe tradition and style that is Australian in character.
He has two outlets in Japan apparently so he must be doing ok/
Never knew that Meister, wow.
Shooey you mate Bruce still available to do a last in Melbourne? I have a wooden pair that could be adapted.
