Pocket Squares

Why so expensive? Can anybody justify the absurd prices out there, ranging in the centre of The Hague of between €29-85 this morning?

They really should be the same, or perhaps slightly more expensive for a bit of whimsy, as the humble pocket handkerchief.

Re: Pocket Squares

Because they are currently very fashionable.

I was in Manchester's Northern Quarter t'other week and I saw loads of men sporting them. Whilst most weren't to my taste (why should they be?) I was most impressed.

Effort is to be applauded.

Re: Pocket Squares

Decent ones have always been expensive...hand rolled, quality silks well printed...but like formby may have struck upon they are in fashion..and its quite an easy mark up for a desired product...I wouldn't pay more than 25 quid on something not hand rolled..I did get a bit into them at one point and spent 50 quid plus on some

Re: Pocket Squares

The ones Santillo do are woven linen on hand looms and they have edging in crochet, again done by hand and sew onto the square by hand. All done in the same town by different ladies. Retail is about 90 euro. Work of art really. Can't begrudge that price. I'd rather pay that than a tenner for some mass produced rubbish made by a 9 year old in India. I don't mind scoring wool ones by Cucinelli off ebay at around 40-50 quid either. Hand rolled and really great touch. My missus has made a few cotton ones for me.  Right good job she does as well.

Re: Pocket Squares

Yes, all very well, but can you remember when you could buy a dozen of them in all shades of blue and white from Marks & Spencers for just over a tenner? I even experimented with trying to turn pocket handkerchiefs into pocket squares, not enough folding potential. It's a bugger.

Very limited options if you want to do it on a budget.

Re: Pocket Squares

For me, it is about patterns. And when it comes to that,Hermes, T&A and Drakes are my favourites. Quirky but still wearable. Sometimes I wear a particularly eccentric one stuffed all the way down my breast pocket so noone can see it.
A bit like going commando, which I also like.
