/\ thanks fats, gonna try to snag the darker greens in a few ......
my old red ones from '74 were less saturated, bit more faded, or lighter in color, out of the box, I've never been completely crazy about red sneaks but those faded ones were very chill .
also had a pair of navy suede Clydes that year, and a pair of Stan Smiths that got covered with red clay dust, good year for sneakers, and records, and football
back to Gazelles, I have really been missing having a go-to pair or two the past couple of years since I gave away my last pair of brown hemp ones which didn't breathe enough
so, hoping for the darker greens but I do like the blues too
also on my incredibly long scroll of sneakers to buy is a pair of custom Sambas, I have a nice pair in mind .....
just a fiend for old-school kicks in canvas, leather, and suede

The reason I don't wear my blue Gazelles is the plastic tongue. I don't like the look, and they start to hurt the top of my feet. They're not like they used to be.
/\ that's what happens with the too-long plastic Gazelle tongue, it gets to you like water torture, you get clicked with each step exactly the same slightly painful way and after a while your feet are being sawn off at the ankles
those plastic tongues destroyed modern Gazelles, along with the inevitable cracking with regular wear of the inner lining and the coming apart of the rubber soles due to glue failure
I needed to get a pair of OGs with the earlier, vastly superior tongue and very good rubber soles and they were available a short while ago and I knew about them but I dithered having just bought several pairs a few days before, you know how it is, and while I was in the valley of indecision they sold out
when I say I am willing to try, order, and return Gazelles if necessary, it's a tongue thing, because I know how to prevent or delay the cracking of the polyurethane and I've got my own tube of Shoe Goo ....
^ Nice. I had some like that, and some blue ones, in college back in the 70s. Wore them a lot. Incontinence pants was big on campus back then.

/\ fats I liked those dark greens and would try the long-tongues in that color, but otherwise I don't know ....
the black ones you're looking at with the "honey-coloured translucent gum rubber outsole" are good .....
back in the old days before the internet my sneaker game was strong, now I'm not as clued in, given my aversion to social media etc., but I'm still trying ...........
Loving the shade of blue on those laces. I just bought an '80s deadstock Jerzees hoodie in that color.
/\ love a deadstock hoodie, was shopping hoodies in my second favorite color last night, post a pic of your score in the Sportswear thread fats!
/\ did you try the SL 72s on B., if so, were they comfortable, I ask because of the tongue, which is like the Gazelle's?
No unfortunately, Size? which is one of the chain stores in the UK for trendy trainers never seem to stock anything over an 11, so I normally just do a reckie and then order a pair in my size online...Im a bit put off by the tongue now tbh from what you guys have said..
/\ I'm sorry about that, maybe you could still try them on a free-returns basis ..........
Love to see that the thread is still going strong! I have sneaker stuff to post, but work has been mad hectic and the weather has been beautiful.
