I am overly colour sensitive. Even blues can "clash" (navy vs. the wrong shade of cornflower). Browns often make me feel numb. Egg yellow - headache/felt-like tongue.
A navy suit with a navy/white bengal shirt and a strawberry red tie makes me feel "alright". Combined with a white gold watch and a lemon yellow (on the more paler/toxic/acidic side of yellow, never sunny/egg yolk) is like air condition, it helps me to cope with heat.
Charcoal is almost unbearable for me, it soaks up sun and colours. Mid-grey, as in the typical colour for flannel, makes any shirt "stand out".
It is difficult to live with it.
I'm actually all for a bit of colour, clash and contrast. At least at the moment. It's a high risk strategy, you have to be careful you can go too far and look like a tit, or a stage magician especially with flamboyant pocket squares. And one peacock item, shirt, jacket or tie, dictates a strategy of conservatism elsewhere.
You do have to be careful with color or you can easily stray into peacock territory, as you say. But I myself would like to see more color out there in real life. All I see almost every day, among both men and women, is black and shades of grey, a lot of beige, and of course, the ubiquitous sloppy faded-blue jeans, maybe sometimes a white shirt. It's as if people have become afraid of wearing anything that might suggest any interest in looking a little vibrant or happy. Everybody looks in mourning.

For me, colours can evoke a physical sensation. That is why I am so addicted to the patterns of Hermes. They are like drugs.
Same goes for T&A.
I agree that T&A use of colour patterns is like drugs, but how do you reconcile that with your colour sensitivity, Beestonplace?
Edit: I meant drugs as in highly addictive!

Everyone's relationship with colour is very much their own, and dependent on how they themselves resonate.
Heres a guy who loves colour. Matching his socks to his shirt and his shoes to his tie. Quite painful really. The article itself is gushing guff.

I like a bit of colour but I think you have to realise the limits of its use. Brown suit, socks and shoes with a pink shirt and solid forest green Grenadine tie and green pattern PS for instance I like. But with a pink PS and socks you've ruined it. Not liking more than one pastel colour in an outfit either. Reminds me of puke.
Oh boy, the mod squad is back. Lulz to follow.

To Rod the Mod
Thanks for your attempts to defend my honour but I would appreciate it if you would not masquerade as me. I really don't have the energy to get involved in Internet dogfights. If people like my blog - great. If they don't, I don't really care, it's not for everyone and the Internet allows for differences of opinion but you are not helping matters by appropriating my internet moniker and appearing to speak on my behalf, so please stop.
