This is really hitting too close to home.
Sleeve length is important, they should come to the elbow or nearly. I've never felt comfortable about short sleeves with a tie though.
Not a massive fan...
Passable as a casual shirt...an abomination when worn with a tie.
Alright when on holiday, never ever with a tie.
The Falling Down look is pretty bad ass if you ask me. Or the Japanese office drone.
I loved the movie, but pretending that the Dilbert/Drew Carey look is instantly transformed via a snarl is not a delusion that I share. That is akin to thinking that every black-suited salaryman has a Tarantino gangster vibe.
At best the short sleeve woven shirt yields a 1950s suburbia look, but the risks of hitting one of the many deeply negative looks makes it very dicey.

Yes
I like wearing short sleeved shirts in warmer months with a jacket. Sometimes in a very conservative pattern like a solid or small check and sometimes an almost "Hawaiian" shirt under a blazer which can look very Preppy. I am also getting a few pajama style collars made up with short sleeves which will have an even more casual effect.
short sleeved shirts can be excellent but not ever with ties but please guys don't wear them except for you select few, I want them to retain shock value and outsider status and be disliked by many, then I can continue buying up all the good ones ....
some hipster on this damn forum, I know it, who else even wants these things, snagged one I wanted last week and now I have to pretend like I don't care but it burns .....
but really short sleeve shirts are so lame please everybody don't buy those horrible old vintage ones and make yourselves look like office boys because that's what will definitely happen to you
I need them because of the heat, you all don't, so lay off 'em. Thanks.

Wasn't me Bro Diddley! Sorry for your loss.
I don't wear them with ties, but definitely wear them with jackets in the summer if it makes sense to be tie-less at the time. Even something simple like a short-sleeve madras shirt, or a red and white striped seersucker shirt that I have, with a blue hopsack blazer or a pincord jacket, for example, looks relaxed yet smart. I am with FNB, I don't have a Hawaiian shirt but I can see wearing one under a jacket. Rooftop party?
The look has been overstereotyped by "Falling Down"

/\ like the idea of custom Hawaiian shirts, I had three done up for me in the '80s at Chipp, they were beautiful, ,,,, two short-sleeved, one long-sleeved ......
