Re: What are you drinking at the moment ?

Brought a few tins of Kronenbourg along to watch the cricket. Then had a few ales at the 'inaugural Lords beer festival'. Sensible prices - £1.80 a half. Football grounds take note.

Not a bad day though Surrey had piled on the runs on day one. Sunburnt nose despite wearing a hat most of the time.

Re: What are you drinking at the moment ?

Wherever I go, its wall to wall IPA's in supermarkets and chalked up like some special outside restaurants and that's why I am sitting here in limbo, family all gone including the mother-in-law on holiday, nurturing my recovery with Beefeater 24, tonic and some serious flacing of CD's going on.

There was a time I would know what to do.....and have the phone numbers too.......

Re: What are you drinking at the moment ?

To be frank, everything more than 4 pints / 3 glasses of wine is causing serious trouble for me nowadays.

The other day I went to my usual watering hole and ordered tea, TEA. Wasnt too bad, sitting in the sun and sipping Twinings.

15 yr Springbank Mint Juleps with mint off the garden and honey from a neighbor's beehive. Not quite farm to table, not quite a mint julep, but quite delicious.

XT beers. XT1 and XT4 were both from wooden casks.     http://www.xtbrewing.com/beers.html

Ye Olde Mitre, Holborn. Still has an excellent beer range despite Fullers ownership.

One of the few things I miss about work is popping in to the mitre.  http://www.yeoldemitreholborn.co.uk

Had a couple of halves of this recently at a beer festival in Hanwell.

The gin craze continues unabated: Blackwoods vintage 2012, from the Shetland Isles with juniper, coriander, angelica, sea pinks(?), marsh marigold(?) and meadow sweet(?) and at €22 great value, considering the going rate for these artisan gins are anywhere between €37-49 these days.

Fairly good amount of good beer seems to be made in Baltimore. Flying Dog. DuClaw. Among others. There's a couple of pretty good beer bars as well, Max's Taphouse probably the best, although at times it starts to feel a bit too rowdy and loud and like I should be a frat boy to fit in.

Re: What are you drinking at the moment ?

Have a lovely Nikka coffey grain whisky on the go at the moment.  But trying not to hit it too hard as anything more than a generous double makes me want to reach for the cigars, which I am trying to avoid...

Admirable. More than a generous double makes me want to reach for... another generous double.

Park brewery beers in Kingston market place.

A 5% and a 5.9%.

Local brew, owned by a nice young couple, has a pitch in a prime spot. Good session in the sunshine with a few pals. Enjoy for the next few days. Shame markets are now mostly fast food outlets, rather than fruit and veg stalls.

Druids Head also reopens tonight after refurbishment. Usually have decent local ales on.

Re: What are you drinking at the moment ?

Had a glass of Shepherd Neame IPA 4.5% the other night in a Finnish pub. Tasted good especially because the barmaid only charged us 4 euros instead of the usual 7.50 euro. Must have been my speaking Finnish with a cockney accent and the full-on charm that did it. Either that or the fact that she is new to the job. I will be back there next week to see if she is behind the ramp.

Re: What are you drinking at the moment ?

Saint James Reserve Rum with Old Jamaica ginger ale. I bought a bottle of the rum yesterday and only a quarter of the bottle is left and I've drank a half bottle of wine in total with my dinner yesterday and today. I feel like I haven't had a drink, which means either the rum is ultra ultra pure, or its that nasty alcohol that encourages you to drink a half bottle or more, before hitting you later in your dream landscape and in hangover the next day.

Time to stop, as I'm on a euro theme park expedition for two whole days tomorrow with no respite as we're staying there in the themed hotel.

Re: What are you drinking at the moment ?

Just turning in for the night after an inch of the Port Ellen malt I have been rationing out since it was given to me a few months ago.

Exceptionally smooth and just lightly peated - but there's no more where that came from, so trying to eek the bottle along for as long as possible...
