Thanks Walker! They were, on a few other suits as well, pics to come...
Excellent shirt, looking forward to seeing it in action... Would be interesting to pair that with a brown tweed and a green or red paisley tie...
I just wanted to share with you all a once-in-a-lifetime experience I hope you all have had or will have in your lifetimes. Perusing eBay with some do re mi to spare, I saw a vintage Brooks Golden Fleece three-piece navy pinstripe suit, 3/2 roll, cuffed trousers, gig line tab, two-button sleeves, the works... What the hell, I thought to myself. I could buy a boring pinstripe made in Canada for nearly $1k from J. Press, or I could drop $225 on this. Obviously, I bought it.
Here's the special part. It fits me perfectly. Waist? Yup. Inseam? The exact amount of break. Sleeves? Check. Body? The perfect sack fit. Even the vest adjuster was already buckled to my exact size. The smile that this brought to my face was ear to ear - like getting a custom-fitted suit from the old BB delivered to my door in a time machine.
Pics to follow - I don't want to do this suit an injustice by taking my usual bad photos, so I'll get the SO to help me out.
Congratulations BB, the eBay gods were smiling on you that day. The feeling of satisfaction when an online vintage purchase turns out to be perfect like that is something to be savoured. But that sounds quite exceptional, I look to seeing it in action.
BTW, what is a gig line tab? I've never heard that expression despite many years of diligent study, but I want one already.
Yes, it is a rara avis, the brown stripe OCBD, not offered since the early 80's, I think...
Some gents around here are on a roll lately. Colin, Walker, Woof, Berkeley.
The stars must be in alignment.
Yes. I've not had much time for the forum recently due to some changes in my life - details to follow - however last night I caught up and yes some great bits and pieces of late.
^ Yes an old Brooks tweed suit I have has one of these little tabs on the front of the waistband where it fastens up. My Russian sewing lady also put one on a pair of trousers she made up for me, when I asked her about it she thought it was to take hold of while you zip up with the other hand. "I also put little pocket here ..... in the old days it was for the gentleman's watch but now, sorry to be rude, it is for the condom," she went on tell me. She's a saucy one that Jelena. I said, 'You won't have to worry about that sort of thing with me dear, I've been seen to.' ... no ... actually I just thought it.
But I prefer your explanation and I'll have to try that belt hooking thing. I like these little tailoring details, they're very pleasing.
