Re: The Late 70s Prep Checklist

Nice look Walker and further observations.
Any views on Columbia Knit rugby's Vs Barbarian?

Re: The Late 70s Prep Checklist

I’ve a couple of Columbiaknits and they’re well-made, heavyweight, authentic shirts that remind me of what I wore when I played for my school in the early to mid 80s. Size wise, I’m a 43† chest, 37† waist 34† sleeve and the large size on me is a touch big and slouchy, which is fine for how I wear them. Although I’ve not tried it, I’m sure for a more trim fit with just a thin, or no, undershirt I could probably get away with a medium.
The best thing of all is that they don’t bleed into the white collars when you wash them, a common failing on cheaper rugby shirts.
I’ve no experience with Barbarian, so can’t comment.

I also have nothing but good things to say about Columbiaknit. Good colors, good price, good quality....

Re: The Late 70s Prep Checklist

Thanks all! I’m pleased the above got some good feedback. I’m in office wear Monday to Friday and I love to wind it down on the weekend and this thread has a lot of influence on that, not much thought goes in to what I wear and that’s what I love about the more causal 70s vibe ivy. Over all I covered just under 30 miles in 4 days hiking and e everything I wore was vintage(excluding underwear and socks hehe). My boots are from the 70s and have probably covered more ground that what I have and are still going strong (i spouse that’s where the saying “tough as old boots† comes from). My 70s gortex TNF was a life saver over the past 4 days and kept me pretty much drye underneath, on the other hand my Sierra Design is most deffo not waterproof In the slightest haha! The day we arrived to wales saw recorded breaking rainfall, over a months rainfall in just 24 hours! Wet, cold & grey but the landscape made up for the rain!

As far as rugby’s go, I love have the vintage one above (will post pics of the label probably late 60s early 70s), old LL Bean & Landsend MIUSA rugby shirts & I love the beefyness of them, the more worn the better for me:).

Re: The Late 70s Prep Checklist

I cannot say anything about vintage Sperrys or whatever was around back in the day, but I pulled the trigger and got me those "Downeast Boat Shoes" by Quoddy. I like them ALOT and they were under € 200,--. Great quality, slightly above those rugged Timberlands and made in USA:
