Hi Everyone
Firstly, as a lifelong fan of the ivy look... I recently found this forum, and wow... there IS a whole community of us out there! To say I'm a little over excited to have found FNB is an understatement.
Anyway, I digress.
A few years back I read Ametora, and visited Japan shortly afterwards. I was really amazed at how many people there still don the Ivy look, and look amazing whilst doing it. There's also a lot of cool shops out in Tokyo and Osaka selling Ivy clothing, and some really nice Japanese brands too... with their own slightly unique take on Ivy.
Since coming back to the UK I've searched and searched for Japanese made Ivy brands that are sold here in the west (as I do think they do it really well... just my opinion) but I can't seem to find any brands other than the occasional Beams+ and Van items on websites like Mr Porter.
I've noticed there are a lot of Japanese denim brands who also sell in the UK (Iron heart / Flat head / Samurai) etc, but doesn't seem to be the case with the Ivy look?
Do any of you know of any cool Japan-made Ivy brands who sell clothes here in the UK or in the US?
Or will I have to come up with another excuse to go to Japan and take a large empty suitcase with me this time?!
Workers http://www.e-workers.net/ do some pieces that cross over into Ivy, also Boncoura - Alpha Shadows stock a small range of both. OrSlow (they do an 'ivy fit' jean, the 107) are quite widely available but mainly workwear.
What Japanese brands are you thinking of? I did a fair bit of shopping in Tokyo and it was mainly the vintage places that stood out, aside from Kent Shop.
benmay100, great to have you here! There is indeed a community of us, and I think this is the best place for that community around because we're very open to lots of different takes on the style, and there's a lot of good info on Japanese brands here... Hopefully this thread gets some good responses
If you do go back to Japan and take a suitcase, save a corner of it for a Boston Tailor jacket for me, will ya?
Welcome aboard BenM ...
John Simons has the odd Japanese Ivy piece e.g. Boston Tailors jackets, but I agree that overall there's not much available.
Enjoy the forum and feel free to contribute, we're a friendly bunch and we love our clobber!
Hi BenM, glad to have you here, really big fan of Japanese stuff, will keep an eye out for Japanese Ivy and prep, you do the same, please keep us posted!
on things Japanese and all your other Ivy-related pursuits .......
and of course you need to go to Japan on a mission for us!
Hi Everyone
Thanks for the great responses, and making me feel welcome already!
I work in London (on Great Portland Street) and literally opposite my office is "Clutch Cafe" which I'm going to have a peruse in today, and down the road is John Simons... so you could say I'm a bit lucky from a location perspective.
I'm going to start doing some research to see if I can find any small/boutique Japanese brands making super high quality Ivy stuff, and I am planning to take another trip to Japan later this year - so will keep my eyes peeled for some good brands to report back on!
Hi folks
Also new here, though I have been lurking on an off for a few years (walker pushed me into signing up).
I too very much enjoy the Japanese take on Ivy and have a number of Beams jackets which are generally excellent and feature all the right ivy details and cut (though I would advise anyone interested to stay away from the seersucker jacket currently available).
Not had much experience of Workers until recently but I picked up their gabardine balmacaan recently and it’s exceptional. Their white Levi’s repro look good too but alas sold out in my size.
Anyhow, I’m loooing forward to hopefully contributing a little. Sorry to hijack your thread Ben.
Hi Chief Brody
Thanks for your response - and yes it seems a bit of a shame, as I kind of feel Uniqlo is a little too "high-street" for those looking for the real Ivy look.
Also, I just checked out that Tailor Caid link... WOW, they are some seriously cool suits. I want one.... or two... or five.
Thanks CuffNoBreak for the info re Beams and Workers. I'll be sure to check out the Garbardine Balmacaan.
There is a French online shop called Beige Habilleur, physical store is in Paris, that offers items by Ring Jacket, Camoshita or Coherence. No idea if this qualifies but looking at their instagram the offered items seem on the spectrum.

‘Camoshita’ .... they just make military jackets that aren’t very good ....
Two new members in one thread, superb!
See Chief, your estimate of 12 members is out of date already.
Hey Rivella
I just checked out Beige Habilleur
They have some really nice sports jackets on there I have to say .... but the Ring Jackets, pretty pricey eh!
Thanks for the tip off
Glad to hear there's more than 12 of us here Woofboxer!!
With the hundreds of thousands of posts I was hoping that would be the case !
On a side note, looking through Insta yesterday I found a Japanese brand called Artificial Lab (website: https://artficial-lab.stores.jp/)
These guys seem to make some really nice stuff (love the sports jackets, and they do a really cool Balmacaan coat) and prices seem a bit more reasonable £300ish for a jacket
Has anyone any experience with them / know if they sell in the UK?

A menswear shop in my city carries Beams. I'd imagine there are shops in London that do the same.
https://shoplostfound.com/collections/beams-plus
As is the case frequently in Toronto, their buy leans a bit more toward militaria /workwear / athleisure, but a bit of digging turns up some nice stuff.
On the Ring Jacket tip, I mentioned in another thread that H Stockton, a haberdasher in Atlanta carries Ring Jacket, and has it marked down by as much as 50% late in sale seasons. Worth keeping an eye on.

And of course, there's always The Armoury in New York.
https://thearmoury.com/
If price is a concern, The Armoury also runs a site whose name I can't remember for gently used bespoke stuff and NOS odds and ends from their stock room.
Hey Mhalat
Thanks for these links
I do really like the Beams+ stuff I have to say
Looks like these guys will deliver to UK too
Apologies for poking my nose on this thread, I'm a bit of a lurker and have only come back to this site in the last month or so.
But for shirts, the Kamakura Vintage Ivy range isn't bad for the price and the detailing isn't to bad either. Yoshio Sadasue the owner once worked for Van Jacket.

These t-shirts are top notch. Sadly only available in Japan. Perhaps John Simons could license some in??
END always have a good Beams Plus selection:

Thanks for all the amazing responses gents
I have to say... I'm quite tempted to see if I can find a cracking Japanese Ivy clothing brand and bring it to the west
I think the Japanese have a great take on it, and there's plenty of us out there who would lap up great Ivy stuff
And... life is short right!?
Would just have to convince the wife....
