Add to the "your faves are problematic" file... Especially interesting for the way that countercultures, in their efforts to shock and to break out from other oppressive structures, can mimic or embrace the oppression of those structures... The Hell's Angels being another '60s example...
Odd question for ya, stan... Ever see anyone in a gray blazer? Like a suit jacket with the buttons converted? I have some vague memory of William F. Buckley doing this...
Stan, what you're describing 2 posts up (re: suit jackets) is conjuring a vision of one of the elegantly decayed bums that Joe Friday might have a poignant questioning session with, am I in the right general ballpark?
Wait. What is that?? Is it new?? Details please??
Yeah it's an eBay listing I came across, amerlop is the seller, it's a size medium... Unfortunately good ringers aren't that easy to come by new... And a ringer henley, forget about it...
it's been a year in which I haven't bought anything that was truly Ivy or even prep … this year was pretty much devoted to shorts and also t-shirts from surf/skate shops and local fave landmarks, couple of pairs of socks …..
keeper brands have included Chocolate, Club Midnite, Habitat, Lakai, and Pyramid, and of course many pairs of Adid@s shorts , which I need to survive
I also picked up some Soffe, Gildan, and Comfort Colors t-shirts in the spring
actually I did buy a couple of pairs of Brooks Brothers boxer briefs, an heir and a spare so to speak
those would seem to qualify as something except I'm not sure boxer briefs even existed during the so-called boom years
and I just recalled that I picked up a couple of pairs of new Ray-Ban made-in-Italy aviators over the summer, those are WWII classics
got a few freebies at Dodgers games, t-shirt, jerseyy, socks, I suppose kids wore baseball jerseys in the Golden Era, but these are specialty items I only wear at games, so they won't see the light of day until sprng
acquired an LA Clippers baseball hat, another freebie, I love giveaways
picked up a nice Topo Designs backpack, Cordura with leather bottom, made in USA, good item I'd looked at for several years
however today I actually acquired a new Shetland sweater for the frigid California winter, here it is, it's not the run of the mill Shetland but I like it, it reminds me of something an English rock star would have worn in the '60s and early '70s when momentarily trying out a less freaked-out look, and I'm psyched about it, it only took me three or four years to actually call and order it up, which is a blink of the eye for me:

That's a great sweater Stan and congratulations for finally pushing yourself over the line and splashing out on it, no one ever regrets buying good quality knitwear. I find half the pleasure in buying stuff these days is mulling, cogitating and deliberating beforehand ... unless when you get round to it you find that it's sold out!
