Sport Coat Lining

Has anyone ever attempted to remove the lining from their sport jacket?

I have a tweed coat, fully lined with some slight padding on the shoulder. The lining's looking a bit tired with a few rips, stains, and general wear and tear signs.

Rather then having it relined, I have been considering removing the entire lining, including the arm lining along with the shoulder padding.

It really doesn't get that much use so I'm not overly concerned about potentially ruining it, but would rather leave it be if it's a pointless endeavour.

Any thoughts?

Re: Sport Coat Lining

I don’t see any damaging potential in removing the liner. As many others on here have stated in the past, messing with the shoulders of a jacket however is never a good idea as it effects the whole construction.

Re: Sport Coat Lining

I ruined a perfectly good J Press jacket messing around with the shoulders because I got it into my head that there was too much padding in them. 3 different alterations tailors tried to sort it out but it never quite looked right.

I wouldn't mess with the sleeves but I don't see why you couldn't do a partial liningectomy on the body.

Although having thin strips of leftover lining might be annoying. Maybe get a $5 jacket from the thrift shop and test out your method first.
