Re: Bob Mueller on Style, via GQ

I hear you Mikey ... though Graham is thoroughly intolerable and a disgrace to the bar, Bolton too, fie on both of those persons

but their clothes are reasonable subjects for discussion

Bolton ditched the sacks, why?  probably no longer fit him as the years go by ....

and whoever that other guy is, sockless with suit is such a jackass move, compounded by the goochiness/douchiness of it all

really praying for a new crop of Good Guys wearing the Ivy prep, which needs to be taken back from the quislings

Re: Bob Mueller on Style, via GQ

Graham is better than Bolton in what universe? At least Bolton seems to have expressed some moral misgivings about being a Trump toady, and Bolton having moral misgivings is one step above finding a heartbeat in a rock. This is the guy who justified dodging the draft for a war he has fervently supported by saying, "Liberals made it so we were going to lose anyway, so why go die?" Nice. But Graham revels in his role, sure he pushes back occasionally, but just to support McConnell, which is just as bad. No remorse. Someday he'll die smug, whereas I think there might be a slim chance Bolton will die scared, so that's something.

I'm not posting any of these people to defend or endorse them, just to discuss their clothing choices, something I like to think about as part of my ongoing ruminations about the intersection of trad/Ivy and conservatism (Exhibit A: Ivy Style and its readership).

I hear you though, Mikey, and I appreciate your pushback. There are people I daw the line at, those who have explicitly endorsed white nationalism and such of course, like Fucker Carlson, but at the same time I think there's value in thinking about these clothing choices... But I'm always open to hearing reactions and thoughts...

Berkeley, to me Graham is a mere toady with no original thoughts whereas Bolton is truly malignant, bloodthirsty and he has that awful thing on his lip. And Stan, the sockless suit guy is unspeakable.

Re: Bob Mueller on Style, via GQ

I totally see what you're saying there... Although I also feel like Bolton has always been this way, while Graham is more of an opportunist... Bolton has (wrong and morally corrupt) principles, while Graham has none. At that point, it's splitting hairs to say which is worse.

What I find amusing (or at least I did initially) is that for years the comments section of IS was full of scathing anonymous criticisms of the What are you wearing photos on this very forum. Yet the selfies on the IS FB page have for some time included plenty of car crash outfits many of which are not even remotely ivy.

Fortunately there are also some nice, proper ivy posters. Hopefully they have now taken control.

Speaking of IS, CC has confirmed the end of Southwick, save as a Brooks Brothers factory. That's a sad day.

Re: Bob Mueller on Style, via GQ

Currently teaching Achebe's "Things Fall Apart" to my tenth grade class. Have had the Yeats lines resounding in my head for weeks.

The Southwick news is deserving of doom and gloom. Someone writing an article about how WASPs are problematic, not so much. And that's coming from someone related (distantly) to William Bradford.

Re: Bob Mueller on Style, via GQ

I've not read Things Fall Apart for years but I recall it being very good. I read another one by him Man of the People which was also well worth a read.

The Southwick news doesn't surprise me. At least our other favourite retailers are still going strong. (As fas as I know.)

Although on reading further it appears a lot of our favourite retailers are reliant on Southwick so it could have some far-reaching consequences.

Re: Bob Mueller on Style, via GQ

MTO is still available, so it seems MTM is the only casualty here, as far as we know right now. That's good, because Southwick MTO is insane value, and I haven't bought what I need from 'em yet! smile
