Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

What can I say ha. Coats is plural and unfortunately I only own one madras but still one day I'm sure I'll increase the collection.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Tbh I'm living in the tropics and even wearing a long-sleeved shirt is too hot for me so I'm living in polo shirts and t shirts nowadays. The only time I wear more than that is if I happen to visit somewhere sub-tropical.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Even my half sleeve shirts only get very occasional use. Recently I have felt as if I have been leaving ivy but then I saw the classic JFK photo in Sunspel, khakis and loafers, which is what I wear a lot, and I realised I'm still ivy albeit in its most minimal and casual form. (Well shorts and flip flops would be more casual but you get the idea.)

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Even disregarding the temperatures, the sartorial codes here are so contemporary and casual that with the above I still look far more elegant than most and far more old-fashioned than everyone.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

I like the buttons, have some really neat brass/metal ones on mine, sadly 2 of the cuff ones have been removed so only one on each (most likely one came off so the other was removed to match). I doubt i'll find any to match.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

I like the metal buttons too, but in my opinion white would be the alternative if they're not your style...

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

I'll give them a try in that case. Gold buttons on navy blazers have particular uncool connotations over in the UK....maybe won't be the same with a nice madras jacket!

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

The metal buttons on madras like that is a very Boom Years look. Probably more "Main Street" Ivy than blueblood Ivy, but a classic late 1950s/early 1960s look. Light/white buttons would make the jacket a bit less era-specific, probably.

As for blazer buttons, gold is the only way to go...

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

You've convinced me, BB! I switch out gold buttons for pewter on blazers...

Cheers Stan. Not seen that colour and model before so am very pleased with them.
They need a little TLC but not that much really.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Nice weejunws score.  Brings back memories.  Though I never went for the plain vamp.  It's such a simple design.  The right proportions.  Why can't this be duplicated?  Esp. by the outfits still making up in Maine?  None of their offerings (admittedly I haven't pored over the sites) catch my eye or lookri ght.  But everything on those old Weeununs looks right.  The stitching.  Not too much gathering on the toe.  And it's obvs not a custom job -- it's a mass produced shoe but they just achieved some sort of perfection with that look.

Stanshall is in a better (mental) place/space than I am.  I respect it, but I can't do the t-shirts, shorts, flip flops, and all that.  I thought I was getting more liberal as I had gotten older, but certainly by sartorial choices, somewhat more reactionary, perhaps.  I just refuse to do it.
