Re: Ivy league style for today (part 2)

yesterday I wore an old pair of floral gray and white drawstring boardshorts from Bali and a pair of black Ray-Ban aviators with cable temples, that was it for hours .... briefly added cotton t-shirt and flips for an errand .....

came back slightly burned and changed into a pair of gray cotton surf jams from the '80s

always been a beach bum ....

Endless Summer Ivy is a thing and that's how I do ... surfer mag '60s style .... fixing to get a fresh burn today in a few minutes

gonna change up the boardies though .....

scored a very good homemade tee at the thrift store the other day, like a motif from a Chipp tie in a way, but I held off on another, maybe I'll see if it's still there later

did pick up a new pair of grosgrain ribbon flip-flops last week, sent to me from Hawaii but no loner made there I'm afraid, still good stuff though, practically speaking

Wonderful stuff John, I mean Beebs!  and nice to see you back, good luck on the fall teaching gig

reading an English public school murder mystery at the moment but I read an Updike novel this summer and it was great

good looks buddy, especially pics ##3 and 5, they remind me of my fave poplin suit days from back in the day

the khaki Brooks poplin wash and wear 3/2 patch sack suit is the greatest suit of all time

Berk, anyone ever told you that you look just like John Updike? The resemblance is uncanny.

Re: Ivy league style for today (part 2)

ran out of novels to read yesterday morning but then found a couple of Updike's Rabbit, I'm set for a while until I can find some more good mysteries, very happy, still need to either order or preferably borrow some .... tropical storm central  is not really used bookstore city ..... not like '70s-'90s Boston and New York were ......

book shopping at the Co-Op and Coop for things that would take time away from assigned reading ... counter-productive but couldn't be helped .....

I'm glad I waited this long to get into these books though ... I think I can appreciate them

will be wearing Brooks light oxford cloth bd and Bean/Vibram blucher mocs later this week, until then I'm in poplin walk shorts, '80s-'90s own-vintage drawstring nylon surf jams, and cotton basketball shorts

I am hanging a show for an artist friend and suppose I had better change out of my board shorts and not show up in flip-flops, Ray-Bans, and a t-shirt as a do-rag under a baseball cap

it's going to be cloudy all week with tropical storms about, but the weather will be cooler ......

the students should be on campus enjoying themselves the first month, nights are getting cooler ... but the places are ghost towns

students not being able to have the social experience and learn from that is saddening

in these times I only want to wear very casual sportswear, I want to keep my good, good-natured stuff for good times, these days are not yet deserving of proper old Brooks, Press, and Andover again .... maybe one day soon I hope ......

until then it's cotton basketball shorts and cotton tees, with sound reasons to wear them, which is they're soft, cool, and comfortable, here in the massive heat of hurricane alley

did pick up two new pairs of cotton b-ball shorts (one pair with zip pockets, one pair plain), as well as a third pair in cotton/poly with zip pockets

the zip-pockets on Adid@s shorts are the hip-hop equivalent of the Press flap pocket with button, they can be very usefu

also looking at all kinds of t-shirts .... and some sneakers of course as always

Re: Ivy league style for today (part 2)

Great post Patrick. Very you.

Sterling work from the rest of you too.

I'm still on the hunt for a cobbler I can trust as all of the leather shoes that I have with me in the tropics need attention, so I'm in permanent desert boots, chinos and polo shirt. I got some Speir and Mackay polos recently that are ok. Actually my Red Wings are still wearable so I'm set if I have to set out in a tropical rainstorm although as it's not the rainy season I've been able to avoid that recently.

I'll find some photos one of these days.

/\  Patrick, the Jets???!!!????  I know you live in Connecticut but couldn't you do the decent thing and root for the Giants?

as a lifelong Dolphins OG fan who left his heart at the Orange Bowl, all I can say is that Pete Carroll put a curse on the Jets that will probably never be lifted .......

(I did love to watch Don Maynard, George Sauer, and Joe Willie Namath play, and always had a lot of respect for Wesley Walker too)
