Nicholas Deakins footwear
Any good? They look quite nice. Sold by 'Zebra' in Chesterfield (e.g.). They once stocked Paraboot and I bought a couple of pairs in a sale. Yes, they really do look quite nice. Not badly priced too.

Ah, good question. I might take a look at them later today - in the flesh so to speak. One definite downside, they appear to have become the 'favourite' of scally football hooligans and trendy clubbers (at least, according to a stockist - but they would say that, wouldn't they?) The desert boot doesn't look too bad; the shoes are in some funny colours, possibly more suited to the Oasis types who fancy themselves at the cutting edge.

Bought a pair. £115. Falke, Burlington and Pantherella socks were to be had (smaller sizes) at five pounds a pair. I bought half a dozen pairs. Firm is based in Leeds (a city I used to enjoy visiting as a child in the 60s: back to back housing - yes indeed - excellent museums and those smashing Victorian shopping arcades), but made in Portugal or Turkey.
'Zebra': very nice chaps who put up with my nonsense with great good humour. Knew Chiltern Street, though not, it seemed, John and Paul's. Some chat about Italy, including Bologna.
I suppose they aren't really a desert boot, but look a bit 'old school' Clarks' if that turns you on. But they can obviously be worn with jeans, cords or chinos down at the pub on an autumn evening. Shetland crew neck?

Also got chatting to a very foxy Slovakian shoe-repairer.

They also look not unlike some of the Astorflex offerings. Nottingham has - gulp - 'The Hip Store', which stocks Astorflex. I simply can't decide whether or not to risk it. I'm grey-haired, pot-bellied and my knees creak. 'The Hip Store' - I ask you!

I was in the market for a sweatshirt recently and using an internet search found the Hip Store. From there I found out about Good Measure a Manchester based company that make sweatshirts based on a traditional USA design. £100 so pricey but good

I still wear Clarks dbs. Not as good as ye olde ones but they look decent enough to me.

I still wear Clarks DBs as well. I've got a couple of pairs unworn ready and waiting. I haven't bought any recently but i reckon the quality is still good.

Desert boots aside, Robbie, I rate their old chukka boot. I once had a pair on which JS said were 'bloody nice'. My excellent old dessies, bought for a few pounds in Lecce in around 2006, had to be binned last year when the crepe soles finally began falling apart. Oh, I loved those boots.
