Grenson

Never again will I accept customs charges on shoes coming in from the UK, so...  the other evening, on Ebay, I picked up a pair of Grenson's snuff-coloured chukka boots, for £91, including postage.  The seller even accepts cheques.  My God, though, they do some bloody awful stuff!

Were they the oscars?

Re: Grenson

It didn't say they were, but I think they are.  I just liked the look (and price) of them.

Re: Grenson

I think you probably picked the best the UK has to offer in terms of design, Shooey probably knows of better quality, but then who wants to spend loads on suede?

Re: Grenson

Again, it was pure instinct.  Old stock.  Looking forward to having them.

Re: Grenson

Nice, I like desert boots with three lace holes rather than those with two which always feel to me as if they aren't done up properly.

Re: Grenson

Agreed.  Clarks' can feel a bit sloppy.  I like to feel a certain amount of firmness in a boot.

Re: Grenson

They get mentioned - but does anyone really rate them?  Mine have gone back into their box for the time being.  They seem well made but I've never really taken to them.  A curious shape.  Too tapered?

Re: Grenson

Pondering the subject of boots again, having just bought a pair of Astorlex...  I'm still not entirely certain if anyone rates Grenson.  I saw a relatively recent photograph of John Simons - he looked as though he might have been wearing 'Oscar'.
They started turning up about twenty years ago at a local 'outlet' (the kind of place that sells 'Pavers' and Gabicci) and seemed quite expensive.  (In fact - and in retrospect - I don't suppose they were).  Always on sale at Russell Street - I think I've seen that said somewhere.
I think I might get mine out of their box later on in the month and see how they go with some dark Levis and a flannel shirt.
