Don't despise it. I mean, really, don't. I had a beautiful jacket turn up yesterday: union-made navy camelhair with leather buttons. Not at all expensive and no sign at all of that fucking polo player.
Was that the one on etsy? Can't quite remember the name of the shop, county line something?
It was on Ebay, Bop. I can't remember the name of the seller/shop, though I could look it up. What struck me - as an inveterate bargain-hunter - was just how reasonably priced the old stuff was.
Vintage RL isn't that an oxymoron?
Only a moron could possibly dislike this jacket: darted though it may be.

If a BB jacket from the 1980s is considered vintage than an RL jacket from the same era surely can be. RL formed the company because BB had lost it. Good quality clothing is just that, no snobbery needed.
Mmmm......
Vintage Ralph Lauren strikes me as an oxymoron.
I have found one or two myself that were not in my size but just fantastic. One thing I have been hunting for a is a nice brown corduroy jacket and found one this past week, but not in my size. Both jackets were RL.
I've a second hand RL madras seersucker jacket. Unlined and jazzed up with clear frosted plastic buttons.
I've a club blazer in the Rugby range, can't fault it. I think some of the Rugby range is quite English public schoolboy.
Contemporary, Italian-made Polo has a better shoulder than contemporary USA-made Brooks or Press. The construction on the old USA Polo is on par with anything that Southwick puts out.
I find what gets in the way with ralph is people's impression of it, if that keydge was ralph i'm sure people would pick at it. It's best to judge as you see it i've got some great ralph things and i've got some that are utter shite, nothing i've bought from the recently has been that good, but then i'm sure some ok stuff is out there, because of the amount of makers they have producing for them.
In spite of being depressed at seeing rail after rail in so-called 'vintage shops', I'm still trying to keep an open mind. So, a £7 impulse buy on Ebay. The label doesn't say where it was made, the cloth is pretty heavy, there is a pocket (which I can't swear to having seen before), and the logo seems relatively, well, muted. It's there but it doesn't scream or whinny. Might it be from the 80s? I've no idea. But £7 isn't bad for a shirt in these melancholy times.
