I have a look at the website most days and just picked up on these (as well as an excellent photograph of Paul Newman). Unpriced. I'd be interested - indeed, fascinated - to know if anyone posting here would consider ringing Paul and making enquiries. I always enjoyed that slightly off-beat side of the shops (Russell Street more so of course). John was adept at picking up interesting bits and pieces and conversations about the Pre-Raphaelites, Christopher Dresser and the Bauhaus (for example) led me to Ellsworth Kelly, Alvar Aalto, Nanny Still and Eames.
Given the cash, there is one of these two pieces I would seriously consider.
Jesus Christ, the snap of Paul Newman is on Twitter. Who would have thought or imagined it? Almost reminds me of the good old Marsh/Gaul/early website days when such inspiring images would pop up to excite and enthuse. Before the Weller/Rowland/F-Troop nonsense gained ground.
Ye gods, does no-one flick over and look? Does no-one have an opinion on what JS has created?
It's a good pastiche but it's still a pastiche and therefore pretty worthless I'd say. The art/design/architecture of the modernist period cannot be made today.
As the great Charles Mingus put it: Ah. Um.
How much might they be asking?
I agree with 2RS on this one. Pastiche
