Jewish Ivy

Alluded to fairly recently, in the light of Jason Jules' forthcoming book.  It probably wouldn't sell in enormous quantities in Waterstones, but ought a sociological approach be taken?  Social history?  Excellent illustrations would be vital, needless to say.  A tall order?  I cannot imagine anyone but Marsh and Gaul putting it together - with appropriate contributions.  Ralph Lauren would have to feature, no?

Re: Jewish Ivy

A change of heart and mind.  John and Paul Simons and J.P. Gaul.  A snappy title would be required.

Imagine the ground to be covered in the UK alone.

Re: Jewish Ivy

It’s Friday night and I’m six or seven.I would rather be at home watching the Bionic Man but it’s the high holy days and I’m in shul. All the men are dressed conservatively.Dark suits that have got razor sharp creases, shoes are polished and not an open neck shirt in site. There are guys from all walks of life - from market traders to teachers. There are men who survived the camps and men who fought to liberate them.

Clothes are important to them. They’re probably a sign of respect for the occasion as well as success.I already know I want to dress as well as them.

People nod at one another and there is quite hum of conversation .Mixed in with Brummie you can hear Yiddish. A subtle link to the past as much as a language that unites us.It sounds cool and the opposite to the BBC presenters.

We’re reminded not congregate outside the building at least twice. These are serious times and the pub bombings were only a short walk from where we’re standing and  the Munich Games a reminder us of how much blood we’ve spilt on German soil - both Brummie and Jewish.

The service ends and we all drift into the night.Elegant shadows on the streets of the second city. How I love this place.

It’s all about the details.Always about the details.

Re: Jewish Ivy

In the playground did you do the slow motion running whilst making the bionic sound?
I confess I did

Re: Jewish Ivy

No but when I was trying to sprint it could have been mistaken for slow motion running.
